Kayaks

What makes the best kayak?

A recreational kayak is not easy to design correctly.  There are many factors that need to be addressed for the various types of uses these boats find themselves in.  At Jackson Rec, we have a  motto “Light, Comfortable Versatile and Confidence Inspiring”.  That pretty much says it all in regards to how we design and build our kayaks and we know you will agree.  So, when you are shopping for your next recreational kayak it’s important to know what to look for.

Weight
As with most anything having to do with outdoor products, lighter usually means better.  Jackson Rec makes it’s boats out of the best possible materials and therefore ensures that you are getting the lightest kayaks we can produce.   First off you need to be able to transport your kayak.  If you drive a vehicle that is tall (such as an SUV or Van) loading/unloading your kayak can become an unpleasant experience if it weighs too much.   Also just simply carrying it from the car to the water can be challenging if your kayak weighs too much.  For those reasons always ensure that weight is high on you list in your final decision.

Comfort
Ask any paddle enthusiast what the #1 important feature to a prospective buyer of a Recreational Kayak is, and its comfort, Comfort, COMFORT!  Well good thing that we have been designing the most comfortable kayaks in the industry since Jackson started 3 years ago.  Its simple really.  For a kayak to be truly comfortable, it has to start with the right sizing.   Many manufacturers try to get around that fact with excessive outfitting adjustments, but at Jackson Rec we start by making an array of hull sizes so everyone has kayak that first fits their body size.  From that point, it’s all about customizable outfitting that is adjustable to allow a unique fit to you’re body.

Versatility
Isn’t it great when you get that new instrument for fun and it better than you ever imagined?  One of the big reasons of that sensation usually has a lot to do with how versatile and useful that product is in an array of situations.  At Jackson Rec, we strive to look at things from a new and fresher perspective.  That fresh perspective allows us to not get caught in the ruts of previous leaders in the paddlesports industry and keeps us focused on finding new ways to make a more fun experience on the water.   Every boat and outfitting design that we will ever produce will have noticeable differences geared at keeping the simple enjoyment of paddling an easy and pleasurable experience for the many uses you can find for your new getaway machine!

Stability
At Jackson Rec it’s critical to our designs that stability be one of your first impressions you feel when you sit in our kayaks.  Having a stable platform is very important and it is also what “Inspires Confidence” most, especially to the person who is new to the sport.  There are two types of stability built into a kayak… “Initial” and “Secondary”.  Initial stability is the side-to-side wobble that you feel or better yet DON”T FEEL when you sit in a kayak. Secondary stability is noticed when nearing the point of tipping and is measured by an additional stability point before you feel that you are going to roll over.. Different designs/models offer different levels of each, but with Jackson Rec, you will notice immediately the confidence gained by our kayaks from the inherent stability (both initial and secondary) that we build into each design.
